Level 1: Lexipontix Assessment Protocol (LAP)
The Lexipontix Assessment Protocol (LAP) provides clinicians with a systematic yet flexible framework for assessing the stuttering experience of a child and their family from a holistic perspective.
Overview
The Lexipontix Assessment Protocol (LAP) provides clinicians with a systematic yet flexible framework for assessing the stuttering experience of a child and their family from a holistic perspective. It is based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) (WHO, 2001) and its adaptation to stuttering.
The LAP is conducted over three 90-minute sessions and includes a range of assessment tools (both formal and informal) and structured interviews that address each of the ICF components. It is a collaborative process involving the child, the parents and the therapist. Starting with eliciting clients’ “Best Hopes” for therapy, the process enhances understanding and consensus about the child’s stuttering experience, supports the formulation of valid clinical hypotheses and guides treatment planning and monitoring.
The LAP may be administered to any school-age child who stutters, irrespective of the therapy programme to be followed.
This course provides official training in the Lexipontix Assessment Protocol (LAP) and equips speech and language therapists with the competencies required to administer it with school-age children who stutter. It also provides the necessary materials and forms in a downloadable volume, ready for clinical use with clients.
